There is no charge for students to use the Virtual Work Experience.

Each task takes approximately 45 minutes, and there are three tasks in each theme, all based on real-world challenges in the built environment. You can complete as many tasks as you wish, in your own time and at your own pace.

For safeguarding, all students must be over 13 years old. Please review our Terms of Use and Safeguarding Commitment for more information.

Some tasks are created by BESS and others are created by employers in the construction industry. You will be able to see which is which when you start each task.

Firstly, you will be asked to register. Make sure you register with your full name as you want it to appear on your completion certificate. When you are registered, you can pick the theme that interests you most to get started. Each theme has a welcome video that you can watch to help you decide. Within each theme there are three tasks; start your task by watching the video of instructions from your supervisor, then review the information provided and use the templates and resources to complete your task. When you have finished all three tasks in your theme, you will get a certificate of completion to use in your CV.

We only collect the minimum amount of data to register you with the site and add your details to your completion certificate. You won’t be asked for any other personal information during the Virtual Work Experience. You can see our full commitment by reading our Privacy and GDPR Policy.

Other than a computer or smartphone to access the Virtual Work Experience, you won’t need any extra equipment. All the templates and resources are provided for you within your task.

That’s great! After you have completed your task, you will be able to see job profiles, company details and other information about that area of construction. There may be employers offering apprenticeships you could apply for, college courses you could research, or job details to discuss with your Careers Advisor.

We’d love to have you involved! You can find out exactly what to do by heading to our Employer website.

Of course! Come on in and have a look around. Who knows, you might even discover a new career for yourself.
